Association of Dunkirk Little Ships Cruise 2018

We have been awarded 30 places for members to attend this year's Veterans Cruise.  The organisers are very keen to see RAF veterans attending this year fro their 100th Anniversary year.

 The Itinerary for the day :-

There will be a bar open at TMYC.  You will be required to purchase your own drinks.

Buffet Supper is free of charge and there will be suitable hospitality on board the Little Ships during the cruise.

Public car parking is available nearby at a cost.

HMS Raleigh Open Day - Torpoint, Cornwall

Wednesday 1st August 2018

The Royal Navy’s largest training establishment in the South West will be opening it’s gates to visitors between noon and 5 pm on Wednesday 1 August.

Members of the public will be allowed to take a look around the base in Torpoint to see where young recruits are transformed from civilians into sailors.

A day out for all the family, the programme will allow visitors to take a look at the specialist training provided at the base, including weapons training, logistics, seamanship and submarine operations.

Armed Forces Day 2018 - Paignton, Devon

 

Date Sunday 1 July 2018

Location Queens Park, Queens Road, Paignton, TQ4 6AT

 

CHRIS JONES AND HIS TEAM WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE WITH THE SAMA 82 STALLS AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE AS MANY OF YOU THERE SUPPORTING SAMA 82 AND AFD.

Torbay Council, the Ministry of Defence, Torbay Veterans and a number of local organisations will be supporting the Armed Forces Day event, at which Britain’s armed forces past, present and future will be honoured.

The event will take the form of military themed attractions, military and military association exhibitors, family day and entertainment for both children and adults at Queen's Park with a parade through Paignton Town Centre.

There will also be a party to celebrate the Armed Forces Family including live music and entertainment.

MV Norland Exhibition - Opens 7th July

Venue:- HULL MARITIME MUSEUM -   M.V.Norland exhibition 'All in the same boat'

Dates - Opens 7th July and runs for 5 months approx.

Free Entry - All Welcome

 

The exhibition has been funded by the lottery commission and Hull City Council and will be on display for 5 months.

It's the story of M.V.Norland and her officers and crew during the time she served alongside the armed forces during the Falkland conflict. MV Norland was the troop ship that took the 2nd battalion of the parachute regiment in to San Carlos and later a became prisoner of war ship.

Armed Forces Day 2018 - Plymouth Hoe

Saturday 30 June 2018  - 9.30am - 10.30pm - Plymouth Hoe

 

CHRIS JONES AND HIS TEAM WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE WITH THE SAMA 82 STALLS AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE AS MANY OF YOU THERE SUPPORTING SAMA 82 AND AFD.

A spectacular and exciting day of entertainment, with air displays, parades, demonstrations, competitions and activities for the whole family.

We are excited to announce for this year's event we will be working closely with the Royal Air Force for the RAF100 celebrations and commemorations, as 2018 marks 100 years of the RAF. 

During the event the Royal Navy, Army, RAF, Royal Marines and veteran’s organisations, charities and the emergency services will showcase their services in a variety of 'villages' set out across the Hoe. Over 100 exhibitors will be on display with static and interactive activities.

The day is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come along and show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.

We will be holding our usual Armed Forces Week Camp in Blackpool over the period Wednesday 27th June 2018 to Monday 2nd July 2018 at Highbank Farm, Hardhorn, FY6 8DN

Blackpool hold events throughout this week, e.g. a Veterans Carvery at Coral Islands and a Armed Forces Dinner at Norbreck Castle Hotel on Friday Evening.

Weymouth Armed Forces Week 2018

With a host of displays and information available during the weekend, Military personnel and Veterans will be able to discover and receive the support from the various agencies and charity organisations; and visitors to the event will be able to learn, appreciate and support the important role played; and recognise the diversity of the Armed Forces, veterans and all service associations.

Saturday 23rd – Military vehicle display, association and charity stalls and convoy to Portland

Sunday 24th – Service of remembrance and parade

Monday 25th – Armed forces flag raising

FALKLAND ISLANDS MEMORIAL CHAPEL AT PANGBOURNE

ANNUAL SERVICE SUNDAY 17th JUNE 2018

 

The 2018 Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel will be held on Sunday 17th     June at 12.00. As always we look forward to welcoming everyone again – SAMA members, families, reunion groups, serving personnel and supporters. Coffee will be available on arrival and after the Service, lunch will be served as usual in Drake Hall.

 

Tickets are not required this year but please complete a booking form so we know catering numbers. You can download a copy from the Chapel web site:

and send or email it to the Secretary at the address below. As usual there will be a train collection service from Reading station at 11.00 so if you need this service please ‘tick’ the box on the form.  Thank you.

NEED HELP?

The Trustees would like to hear from any family members or veterans who would like to attend but who are unable to do so due to financial hardship or an inability to travel distances unaccompanied. In these special circumstances it may be possible for the Trustees to give a measure of assistance to enable attendance at the annual service using funds set aside for this purpose. To apply, please write or telephone the Secretary (below) who will treat all enquiries with the utmost confidence. There is now a leaflet available entitled ‘Funds for Families and Veterans of the Falklands War’. Copies can be obtained from the Secretary (below).

Falkland Islands Liberation Day - Wreath Laying Ceremony

Chorley, Lancashire – 14th June 2018

 

Please arrive no later than 10.30am for a 11.00am start with a two minute silence.

The ceremony will take place at

Parking is at the local Car Parks.

 

This is a very laid back and family friendly event. (No Marching up and down the Parade ground.)

 

After the service we usually retire to the local Weatherspoon’ - (buy your own drinks)

HMS Collingwood Open Day

Saturday 2nd June 2018

 

HMS Collingwood will be holding its annual Open Day on Saturday 2nd June 2018.

The event incorporates the final of the Royal Navy Gun Competition and a variety of charity and commercial stalls, exciting attractions for all ages and guided tours of the base.

Gates open between 0930 and 1700 hrs.

Caravan & Camping Branch - Spring Camp 2018

The Caravan and Camping Branch are holding a Spring Camp in 2018 over the Late May Bank Holiday.

It will be held between Thursday 24th May to Tuesday 29th May at the Red Lion in Winfrith Newbergh, Dorset  DT2 8LE

Electric Hook Up is available and if you are not of a Camping or Caravan persuasion the Hotel has some rooms available. We will be holding a Fund Raiser on Saturday Night and Sunday Afternoon there is a Music Festival with 4 or 5 local bands

Scotland Branch AGM & Reunion Dinner

Falklands Anniversary Service - Hull Minster
Sunday 29th April 2018

A Service will be held at Hull Minster, Hull on Sunday 29th April 2018 to commemorate the 36th Anniversary of the Falklands.

Guests are kindly asked to arrive at Hull Minster by 1.30pm. The Service will start 2.00pm followed by a Parade through the town centre, which will include a Wreath laying ceremony.  The Drum Head service will take place inside Hull Minster.

 

The Service will be followed by a buffet and bar.

 

All Welcome to attend.


 

Falklands Bench Dedication Service, Ross on Wye

Saturday 14th April at 4.00pm

 

Following on from the Ross on Wye RBL Branch,  35th Anniversary Falklands events, the Branch has raised further funds for a Falklands Bench, of  which will be dedicated on Saturday 14th April at 4.00pm.  A small Service will take place at the Market Place  (town centre), followed by a reception at the Larruperz Centre, Grammar School Close in Ross on Wye.

 

If you wish to attend the Service and reception, please can you email the SAMA office and inform them of your attendance, as we will need to know numbers for catering etc. For further information on the Service, please contact Margaret Jones  (Secretary - Ross on Wye RBL Branch) on 01989 566301.

 

The Branch is also holding another Service in November to dedicate a Remembrance Stone, in the town.  Further details on this will feature in the next issue of the SAMA (82) newsletter and on the website/discussion board in September.

21st AGM & Reunion Weekend 2018

Friday 6th April to Monday 9th of April 2018

 

The 21st SAMA AGM and Gala Dinner, will be held at the Aztec Hotel, Bristol on Saturday the 7th of April 2018.

Dress Code for the Gala Dinner is:-
Gents: - Jacket/Blazer/Lounge Suit and Tie.
Ladies: - Cocktail Dress, Trouser Suit or Blouse and Trousers.
Miniature Medals may be worn.
Dinner Jackets and Posh Frocks may be worn if preferred.

If you haven't got a jacket gents then just come anyway in shirt and tie, it is more important to be there.
After the continued excellent service from Isle-of-Wight Tours Limited, we are again using Shirley Winn and her team for the organisation of the weekends AGM and Gala Dinner.
