Conflict Remembrance Day

The volunteer run Rutland Railway Museum is to hold a short commemorative event encompassing the anniversary of VJ in the Far East and Liberation of Far Eastern Prisoners of War 1941 -1945 at the museum near Cottesmore on Thursday 25th August 2022.

In addition, this year they will also be commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Falkland’s Conflict, where a list of the casualties will form a display.

On this day a FEPOW war memorial steam locomotive SINGAPORE will be on special commemorative display at the museum.

10.00am – Museum opens for the invited and registered guests to sign in.

11.00am – Start of Remembrance event, with Parade and Standards

 – welcome address, readings, flower, wreath laying & prayer reading to commemorate the FEPOW,

followed by Falkland’s reading, and names of those KIA read out and honoured, readings, flower, wreath laying & prayer reading to commemorate the lives lost in 1982.

To conclude the Last Post will play, followed by two minute silence.

Following the ceremony there will be the chance to have a look around the museum, take photographs and join the volunteers for light refreshments before departure.

Subject to weather on the day it is intended for the event to take place outdoors.
