It was with deep regret I heard of Paul’s death whilst I was at Manchester Polytechnic, late in ’82. A former pupil of the Duke of York’s Royal Military School (as was I, and indeed Paul…known singularly as ‘Nev’ by all) informed me of the sad loss.
‘Nev’ Lightfoot was a character to be feared at times – but only if you were playing up. A year older than me, he was drawn towards my sense of humour and mischieviousness – traits I would say were similar to his. I knew he’d joined the Royal Signals, but was unaware of his progression to Hereford. My father had done the same, all be it Royal Signals and SAS in Malaya. He was a great guy…a born soldier. He is sadly missed – my father too.
Eric Robinson.
