Philip was born on 13th April 1954.
He served with the Welsh Guards prior to joining the Special Air Service.
He died on 19th May 1982, when the Sea King helicopter that was transporting him crashed into the sea.

In 2022, as part of the 40th Anniversary commemorations, geographical features were identified and named after the fallen of 1982. JONES HILL is a prominent hill with a 300 elevation on Weddell Island, on the west side of Quaker Harbour.
