Corporal McCarthy, from Frome in Somerset was born on the 23rd January 1955.
He died during the Battle for Mount Longdon on 12 June 1982, aged 27 years old.
He rests at Beckington Churchyard, Frome, Somerset.

In 2022, as part of the 40th Anniversary commemorations, geographical features were identified and named after the fallen of 1982. McCARTHY ISLET is a low sparsely vegetated islet to the south of Box Island.
