Corporal McIlvenny was born on the 2nd October 1954.

He served with 9 Para Squadron RE in Northern Ireland, prior to sailing to the Falkland Islands.

During the conflict he was with 20 Field Squadron which was under command of 9 Para Squadron RE.

He was killed on Sir Galahad, on 8 June 1982.

In 2022, as part of the 40th Anniversary commemorations, geographical features were identified and named after the fallen of 1982.   McILVENNY CREEK is located on the east side of Fox Bay between Fox Bay East and East Head.
