Stephen John Godfrey Sykes

22nd Special Air Service Regiment

Stephen, from Huddersfield in Yorkshire, was born on 10th April 1957.  He served with the Royal Signals prior to joining the Special Air Service. 

He died on 19th May 1982, when the Sea King helicopter he was in crashed into the sea while transferring troops.

In 2022, as part of the 40th Anniversary commemorations, geographical features were identified and named after the fallen of 1982.   SYKES ISLET is a small tussac island north of Rookery Island, on the east side of Falkland Sound, East Falkland.
