I first meet Andy as a young marine straight out of training. He was my first corporal during the units year tour of Northern Ireland. He was a very patient friendly and funny bloke. I often think of him. I met his son and wife on the 25 anniversary pilgrimage back to the Islands and he was very much like his dad.

‘I met Andy when we both served in Support Coy 45 CDO RM. Andy Mortar Troop and I was M Flight. We became friends and I always remember have a good laugh with him. Once I left 45 in 1981, Andy deployed to NI, we stayed in touch. Many funny Bluey from Andy about the deployment in NI. Andy you are always remembered and when ever I see your name, I always say to whoever I’m with what a top run ashore oppo you was.’

BJ Petty, M Flight – 45 CDO RM
