Glen Conrad Grace

Glen Conrad Grace was born in Newport Gwent on the 12th December 1961 to Tom and Ursula. Tom his father, now deceased and two of his older brothers served in the armed forces and his younger sister is now serving in the armed forces. All together he had three older brothers, one older sister and one younger sister.

Glen grew up in the Ringland area of Newport and went St Gabriels Roman Catholic Junior School and Hartridge High School where he enjoyed most sporting activities. His favourite sport was football which he played for his local pub team (The Man of Gwent) and even after he joined the army he would still play when he was at home on leave. He also enjoyed fishing and could be found at one of the many local fishing spots during his free time.

Like his brothers before him he joined the Welsh Guards and trained at Pirbright Camp (the Guards Depot). Glenn served at several postings including Kenya and Cyprus. He enjoyed his job a great deal and was transferred to mortar platoon after serving a short time with Prince of Wales Company. Glenn was awarded the South Atlantic Medal posthumously. His mother, who is deceased was very proud of him, as indeed were the rest of the family.

Glen died on 8th June 1982 when Sir Galahad was bombed in Fitzroy Sound.
