Immoral annexation vile
Forced upon a distant isle.
Defenders sailed without delay,
Over the sea and far away.
Over the Sea and Far Away,
Though it’s forty years, it’s like yesterday,
And it meant much more than words can say,
Over the Sea and Far Away.
Sacrifices on the deep:
A liberation oath to keep.
By sea, by land and from the sky,
Oppressor’s wishes to deny.
Over the Sea and Far Away,
Knowing not what risks before them lay,
And they gave their all to save the day,
Over the Sea and Far Away.
Across the raging main they sailed
And o’er the foe their skills prevailed.
Deliv’ring folk from tyranny;
Bringing freedom from the sea.
Over the Sea and Far Away,
Resolute that they would have their say.
With their lives so many souls would pay.
Over the Sea and Far Away.
Now those defenders look upon
The deeds they did when they were young.
It was right to sail across the sea,
To give folk back their liberty.
Over the Sea and Far Away,
Though it’s forty years, it’s like yesterday,
And it meant much more than words can say,
Over the Sea and Far Away.
